Re: Religion's Fair Game if it motivates politics

I agree that religion is fair game for political comment when it motivates politics. It is also important to treat religion fairly. Mr. Martin acknowledges that much of what he understands the Prime Minister to believe is speculation, yet speculate Martin does about what Mr. Harper believes and how those beliefs might influence policy decisions.  Mr. Martin also takes pot-shots at The Christian and Missionary Alliance, one of the most ethnically diverse denominations in Canada with an accredited University College and a strong passion for social justice.

Evangelicals are not a homogeneous group, having a range of views on a variety of topics, similar to our fellow Canadians. I personally know many scientists who are evangelicals. I know many evangelicals who are passionate and engaged about the environment. Polling also shows that evangelicals are at least as environmentally conscious as other Canadians.  Relying on hearsay or speculation is neither fair nor reasonable on the part of anyone in media when making representation about a significant component of the Canadian population.
