Dear Friend,
Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all the information that we’re being constantly bombarded with? It comes at us through different media and from so many sources – from actual experts, from self-proclaimed experts, and even from those deliberately seeking to deceive people.
With so many voices claiming to be the “voice of truth” and competing for our attention, which can we trust to present biblical truths in a way that is timely and relevant?
Our society’s major influencers – educational institutions, the media, and government – have increasingly marginalized the Christian voice from the public square. But the EFC is committed to ensuring that a Christian worldview continues to be expressed as our society frames and debates the complex issues of our times.
We work to strengthen the impact of the Church for Christ in Canada by equipping Christians with biblically grounded resources that encourage and empower them to confidently and boldly speak up and speak out.
For many decades now, the EFC has excelled at communicating with our constituents and the general public through traditional means: newsletters, speaking engagements, workshops, in-person media interviews, and our award-winning magazines,
Faith Today and
Love Is Moving.
But the way people in our society search, consume, interact with, and share information has been revolutionized. Digital communication is fast, efficient, and convenient. Digital media meets today’s growing demand for bite-size pieces of information that are delivered quickly and easily shared. Given the choice between reading a lengthy parliamentary brief or viewing a 3-minute video, many would choose the latter!
We want and
need to improve and expand our digital communication capabilities so we can better communicate with today’s audiences – whether through social media, video conferencing, web chats, videos, webinars, or podcasts. To accomplish this, the EFC is creating a dedicated studio space in Ottawa.
The timing to do this is perfect as we are relocating the EFC’s Ottawa office this fall. Located strategically near Parliament Hill and the Supreme Court of Canada in our nation’s capital, the new office will support our rapidly growing Centres:
- The Centre for Faith and Public Life for our public policy and legal work
- The Centre for Research on Church and Faith for our national research initiatives
- The Centre for Ministry Partnership and Innovation for our collaborative ministry efforts
In addition to building out intentional prayer and collaborative space, the new office will also feature a media studio, a fully functional space that will be instrumental in the implementation our digital communications strategy. The space will have proper lighting, sound proofing and sound and video equipment, as well as professionally designed sets and backdrops. And it will be staffed by a digital communications specialist with skills and talent in content writing, video production and editing, social media marketing, etc.
Once built, the media studio will serve all three Centres, allowing us to produce informative and engaging Christian digital content that will include:
- educational videos on current issues that impact Christians and the Church in Canada
- podcast interviews and webinars featuring Christian culture shapers, leaders and ministry experts
- presentations that use creative graphic representations to help church and ministry leaders better understand and grasp current faith trends or ground-breaking research results
- live-streamed interviews aired by local or national news broadcasters (with our public policy staff member on contentious bills, or our legal interventions staff member on precedent-setting court cases, for example)
- mass communications/marketing via social media that quickly disseminates information or launches advocacy initiatives, which can then be more broadly shared by the recipients within their own personal networks
- innovative program content for Christian networks and channels
- video streaming content for Faith Today TV, featuring select stories and material from the magazine and podcast
As well, we understand that, for many of our smaller affiliate ministry organizations, the cost of renting a facility like this is prohibitive. Our affiliates will be given affordable access to our media studio to help them carry out their mission better. (For example, a doctor from the Christian Medical and Dental Association could create an advocacy video to protect doctors’ right to refuse to participate in doctor-assisted suicide.)
Having a staffed media studio will vastly improve the way we reach this and future generations for maximum engagement and impact. It supports our vision of “uniting Evangelicals to bless Canada in the name of Jesus” as we seek to provide timely access to trusted sources of information and ideas that will strengthen the Church’s impact for Christ in Canada.
Will you make a generous donation today to invest in this important new undertaking? Will you help ensure that the Christian voice continues to be accessible, relevant, current, and present? Thank you for your prayerful consideration.
Sincerely,
Dr. David Guretzki
President & CEO
