EFC’S CRCE awards research grant for study on United Church evangelicalism

18 August 2009

MARKHAM – The Centre for Research on Canadian Evangelicalism (CRCE) announces the funding of new research into evangelicalism in the United Church of Canada.

Following up his Ph.D. dissertation, The Survival and Decline of the Evangelical Identity of the United Church of Canada, 1930-1971, Kevin Flatt will extend his research to the present with a new study of A Mainline Minority: Evangelical Renewal Groups within the United Church of Canada, 1966-2009. In this study, Flatt aims to measure the numerical strength of United Church renewal groups over the past 40 years, explain the growth or decline, and identify the strategies that these groups have pursued to maintain their viability within the non-evangelical environment of the United Church.

Kevin Flatt earned his Ph.D. from McMaster University in 2009 and is now Assistant Professor of History at Redeemer University College in Ancaster, ON.
