EFC participates in consultation on human trafficking

The EFC participated in a government consultation on human trafficking last week, emphasizing the importance of Canada's prostitution laws and the need for a permanent national anti-trafficking strategy. The government now requires reporting on forced labour in the supply chain. The EFC also recommended analyzing the results of this requirement to see if new measures are needed.

EFC submits brief on image-based sexual abuse to UN Special Rapporteur

The EFC and the World Evangelical Alliance jointly submitted a written brief to a UN Special Rapporteur last week. It identified concerns and recommended responses to address forms of image-based sexual abuse, such as online pornography, posting of intimate images without consent, distribution of child abuse images, sextortion and AI generated images.

The EFC relaunches Church & Faith Trends journal

The EFC’s Centre for Research on Church and Faith has relaunched Church& Faith Trends, an occasional journal on the evangelical movement in Canada and its ministry contexts. The journal serves EFC affiliate leaders and other audiences. Volume 6, Issue 1 features an analysis of an op-ed discourse on medical assistance in dying (author: EFC President David Guretzki). It also features an analysis of how Evangelicals are identified in North American polling (authors: Rick Hiemstra and Lindsay Callaway). The current issue and back issues can be found here.

Government consultation on advance requests for MAiD

The deadline is Feb. 14 for Canadians to participate in the federal government’s consultation on advance requests for medical assistance in dying. Read an EFC blog post on this issue called Ten reasons to oppose advance requests for MAiD.

How to be an instrument of peace

Did you know? During the Second World War, civilian public service was an option chosen by some Christian pacifists in North America. An Alberta historian shares more in the JanFeb Faith Today History Lesson column about this lesser-known piece of Canadian history.

You can regularly read this column and other thought-provoking, inspirational columns and articles by subscribing to the print version of the EFC’s bi-monthly magazine Faith Today.
