EFC writes to finance minister on troubling recommendation
The House of Commons finance committee tabled a report on what it recommends be included in Budget 2026. These are recommendations for the government to consider; they are not binding. The federal budget is expected this fall.
The EFC finds one of the committee recommendations particularly troubling:
Recommendation 65
- … Budget 2026 should also introduce amendments to the Income Tax Act to require greater transparency from anti-abortion pregnancy centres in order to mitigate harm to clients and prevent the misuse of charitable status.
The EFC has written to the Finance Minister expressing dismay about the pejorative language used to describe ‘anti-abortion’ pregnancy centres. We explained that singling out one category of charity for additional scrutiny and additional burden on the basis of their beliefs on abortion risks politicizing the charitable sector. The EFC urges the Finance Minister not to follow this recommendation but to support Canada’s vibrant charitable sector.
Condolences after CFB Wainwright fire
The EFC expresses our deepest sympathy over the tragic incident at CFB Wainwright in Alberta. We lament the loss of life, and pray for the recovery of all who were injured. We grieve with the families, friends and communities who bear the burden of these losses, and invite all Canadians to join us in praying that God would comfort them. We thank God for the first responders and medics, and pray God would bless them and give them peace.
