EFC to intervene in case on whether faith-based facilities can be compelled to offer MAiD

The EFC has been granted intervener status in a case about the ability of a Christian healthcare facility in B.C. to offer care that is consistent with its religious beliefs. The EFC’s arguments will focus on institutional religious freedom and the ability of Christian institutions to provide services to the public without being compelled to compromise their beliefs. This case decision will answer the question of whether the state can compel MAiD in all medical facilities and care homes, regardless of the institution’s religious beliefs.

New resource for discussing religious freedom with election candidates

The federal election campaign is at its halfway point, with election day on April 28. The EFC has added a new issue summary on religious freedom to its election resources. Use this summary to inform your conversation with candidates or give it to candidates and ask them to consider the information and questions it raises.

Candidates for each riding are listed at Elections.ca. Search for the candidates in your riding using your postal code. Take a few minutes to pray for each one by name. See the EFC’s prayer suggestions at TheEFC.ca/Election

Inspiring video conveys ALS journey

Philip and Robyn Serez of Kitchener, Ont., have served as mission mobilizers for over 25 years with Multiply, the mission agency of Mennonite Brethren churches. Last year they contributed a powerful article to Faith Today called "The Terrifying Delight of Losing Everything" which reflects on their journey with the degenerative disease ALS that is breaking down Philip's body. Multiply has made a video documentary telling their story, and we've just received permission to share it on FaithToday.tv. Worth watching!
