MAiD expansion: The EFC expresses deep concern to three new ministers

Vote on euthanasia bill signals a shift

A bill to stop MAiD for mental illness was defeated by a vote of 167-150 on Oct. 18, 2023. MAiD for mental illness will be allowed in March 2024. Bill C-314 would have reversed the law allowing people to be eligible for euthanasia on the basis of mental illness. The close vote on Bill C-314 signals a shift as more Canadians think about the impact of the change and express their concerns.

Read about the vote and what this might mean in our new blog.
