Joel holds a Bachelor of Arts from Bishop’s University, a Master of Theological Studies from Tyndale Seminary, and a Master of Divinity from McGill University.
Joel spent four formative years in Malawi with International Ministries of the Presbyterian Church, where his passion for authentic living and caring for people on the margins took root. This experience shaped his heart for justice and hospitality – leading to the adoption of two children from Malawi, providing respite care, and creating a home that welcomes others regularly.
Currently Joel serves as lead pastor at Paris Community Church and oversees a prison ministry through Malawi Friends of Prison. He is particularly passionate about exploring the intersection of faith and community, and helping people discover how to live out their faith in meaningful, adventurous ways.
Joel is married to Rebecca and together they have three amazing kids: Isaac, Masika, and Canaan. He’s a sports enthusiast – especially when it comes to hockey and tennis – and a lifelong, devoted New York Islanders fan. Also, ask him about nachos – he takes them seriously.
