Alberta regulator proposes changing conscientious objection policy
The Alberta body that regulates doctors is asking for feedback on its policy on conscientious objection by Jan. 15. One of the proposed changes introduces “effective referrals” into the policy. Many doctors object to ending the lives of their patients through euthanasia and would object to providing an effective referral for it. Alberta residents and healthcare providers are invited to participate in the consultation.

The EFC calls for continued advocacy on MAiD for mental illness
Medically assisted dying for those with mental illness alone is scheduled to come into effect on March 17, 2024. Comments from the justice minister have offered some hope, however, that the government may consider delaying the law.
