EFC asks for continued defence of prostitution laws

In a letter to the Justice Minister, the EFC has pointed to the recent Ontario decision that upholds the prostitution laws as constitutional. The EFC asked for a vigorous defence of the laws when the decision is appealed, for consistent enforcement across Canada and for funding for exit services for those wishing to leave prostitution.

Canadians want safeguards for MAiD for mental illness

Very few Canadians believe no additional safeguards are needed for MAID for mental illness, according to a poll commissioned by the EFC this fall. The majority think if MAID for mental illness is going to be put in place, it should be a last resort after all reasonable treatment options have been exhausted. Yet the change in the law is set to take effect without any additional legislated safeguards, as the EFC’s new blog points out.

Keep engaging MPs on MAiD

Your participation in conversations about MAiD has been making a difference. Please continue contacting your MP on this issue. The government can still halt, postpone or restrict MAiD for mental illness before the law is scheduled to be implemented next March. For resources, see theEFC.ca/TakeActionOnMAID.
